As Downton Abbey nears the conclusion of its sixth and final season, it's the perfect time to celebrate this landmark show. With so many characters and so many tremendous changes throughout the epic storyline which spanned the years 1912- 1925, it's difficult to choose a handful of favorite moments, but I've done my best.
1912
Down Abbey, season 1"Electric lights? Telephones? Everything is changing far too quickly! I fear that one day soon there will no longer be great houses like this, with lords and ladies upstairs and servants downstairs." - The Dowager Countess Violet Crawley
1913
"Curses! My evil plot against a fellow service staff member backfired. How much longer will houses like this keep on?" - Thomas Barrow
1914
"I do hope that things will settle down, and return to some semblance of normalcy. However, I fear that with all these great changes this house can only stand as it is for so long." - Lady Mary Crawley (as a maid braids her hair for bed)
1916
"It is only due to great luck that I am able to work as a servant in this house despite having a mysterious past and leg injury. Sometimes I wonder, though, if this house will have lords and servants for much longer." - Mr. Bates
1917
"Any day now, things will change. It's quite obvious if one reads the news. This is all fleeting." - Cora Crawley, Countess of Grantham (dining while a butler and numerous footmen stand silently nearby)
1920
"Harumph! Harumph, I say! Things should not change. As head butler I must insist that all this dizzying 'progress' in the world cease at once. I feel that any day now Downton Abbey will no longer exist as we know it." - Mr. Carson
1921
"Sometimes I wonder if Downton Abbey will continue to have many butlers and maids and footmen. It seems like things are changing so quickly." - Matthew Crawley (dying words)
1922
Downton Abbey, season 6"Hard to believe things have changed so much in the last ten years, and are about to change so much any day now." - Mrs. Patmore (preparing dinner for the lords and ladies of the Crawley family)
1924
"I shall miss this Downton Abbey when it is simply a place, and not a home for lords and ladies upstairs whose servants live downstairs." - Lady Edith Crawley
1925
"Cor! Go on, then! I've only just got me presitgious degree and become a modern woman! Take these biscuits upstairs for the lords and ladies while I give a right old think 'bout how things have changed so very much!" - Daisy
